 AP US History!

 

This year is going to be an amazing challenge. Pat yourself on the back now for taking it on. If you jump in head first, and plan to make your most genuine effort, you will come out

 

a.            1. Alive

 

b.            2. Ready for college- both in your skill and content knowledge

 

c.            3. With a sense of great accomplishment

 

-and possibly-

 

d.            4. With college credit (up to 6- that is half a semester’s worth!- that is about $600 worth!)

 

This class is not for the faint of heart! You must be wiling to give this experience your all to both enjoy it and reap the benefits.

 

 

 

The first task you have is to purchase your supplemental text. You may choose either Paul Johnson’s A History of the American People  or Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States.  Both books are available at An Open Book for 20% (just tell Anne that you are an AP student from Frontier Academy). You will read one of these books over then next school year. Johnson is conservative, Zinn is liberal. I highly recommend that you pick the person with the political view point that opposes yours, to get a new view. Both writers are very skilled, and both are quite enjoyable. The reading schedule for the books can be found on the back of this sheet.

 

 

 

Your second task, if you would like to begin the year with extra credit. Is to purchase a supply to share with our class. You may choose markers, construction paper, poster board (3) or glue sticks (3)(no bottles please). For yourself you need a notebook that is just for AP, pens, pencils, erasers and a very ready brain. If you have not been reading this summer pick up a book and start! Reading is like working out- you have to do it all the time to stay in shape.

 

 

 

Your third task, for your final pre-class extra credit, is to invite/persuade/recruit one more person to join us. Our class is a bit small, and that won’t be as much fun. If you do get a friend to sign up let Mrs. Cook know ASAP (so no one else can claim credit)

 

 

 

I can’t wait to join you on this adventure this year. AP is my joy and this 4^th year will be the best ever.
